Did you enjoy yourself at Word! at the Writers' Festival? Do you want to see more live poetry performances? Are you curious about performing poetry yourself live in front of people? If so, think about checking out Cafe Deux Soleils every fourth Monday for the Youth Poetry Slam.
On September 6, Minis grades 9-12 stepped aboard The Holodomor Tour bus, a digitally-interactive mobile classroom which hosts lessons on the Holodomor. The Holodomor translates roughly to ’death by famine’ and refers to the genocidal starvation of millions of Ukrainians during the Stalinist regime in the Soviet Union, 19332-33. Our Minis dug through historical documents, government memoranda, survivor accounts and photos to deepen their understanding of the Holodomor and it’s place in history. It was a sobering day which encouraged us to think critically about the world around us today. Link to VSB article on the visit.
